Grand Prairie Coop, Inc.

GM Corn Acceptance Policy

It is imperative that as an industry we ensure that our products comply with the demands of our customers. Processors who ship products to the European Union will not accept grain that is not EU approved. If the grain is not EU approved the Decatur processors will not accept them.

I must emphasize that Grand Prairie Coop must keep corn with out EU approved traits out of our Norfolk Southern train loading facilities since these facilities ship most of their corn receipts to the Decatur processor market.

At the same time, your board of directors and management recognize the desire of some of our customers to grow these non-EU-approved varieties. With the addition of the Canadian National switch in Tolono we can channel this corn to approved markets.

Customers that grow this corn must identify each load to the scale operator and dump pit operator so we can segregate this corn from all approved varieties. I would also ask customers that have grown the non-approved varieties to contact the Tolono office prior to harvest with the acres you have planted. Knowledge prior to harvest of that volume will enable us to reserve storage space for these varieties and minimize harvest delays.

If you decide to grow these varieties, please follow good stewardship practices and notify the Tolono office as early as possible.

Let’s not let these non-approved varieties create another star-link disaster which cost the American farmer ten cents per bushel of corn sold that year.
